Solving Walkie Talkie Radio Interference Problems in Production Lines Using Ferrite Core

Radio Frequency Interference Problem in Manufacturing Plants

Many manufacturing plants use walkie talkies for communication inside production areas. However, radio frequency noise generated by walkie talkies can sometimes affect industrial equipment, PLC systems, and control devices.

Our EMC engineering team was contacted by a factory in Rayong, Thailand, where operators experienced a critical issue: whenever a walkie talkie was used near the production line, the manufacturing equipment suddenly stopped operating.

EMC Investigation and Root Cause Analysis

After conducting an on-site EMC investigation, we found that several signal and control cables were vulnerable to high-frequency radio noise emitted from the walkie talkie devices.

This type of issue is a common EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) problem found in industrial automation systems and PLC-controlled equipment.

EMC Countermeasure Using Ferrite Core BRE-20-30-15

To solve the problem, our engineers installed Ferrite Core model BRE-20-30-15 on the communication and control cables to increase impedance against high-frequency noise and suppress conducted interference.

After applying the ferrite core solution:

* Walkie talkies could be used normally inside the production line
* The machines no longer shut down unexpectedly
* PLC systems operated stably
* Radio frequency interference was significantly reduced

What is a Ferrite Core?

Ferrite cores are EMI / EMC suppression components used to reduce high-frequency electrical noise and radio interference.

They are commonly used in:

* Industrial machines
* PLC systems
* Inverters
* Signal cables
* Communication devices
* Automation systems

Ferrite cores are effective solutions for preventing equipment reset, PLC malfunction, communication errors, and noise-related failures.
